So what do you call the mother of your primary partner if you aren’t married to your primary partner? Mother-in-law isn’t right, since there’s no law involved. She’s way more important to me than the term “my boyfriend’s mom” implies. I was trying to come up with some variation on the word “kindred”. A friend suggested “momkin”, which would be cute if I was 5 years old, but we are both grown women and I don’t think I can call her that. Mom #2 is too cold. I’m tired of having to add “or whatever” to the end of my relationships. My boyfriend or best friend or whatever. My psuedo-girlfriend or whatever. My mother-in-law or whatever.
