I use a radio alarm, but the reception is so crappy that I hardly ever get a clear station, so it mostly wakes me up with fuzz most mornings. But this morning, I woke up to the most beautiful voice coming in clearly. Each song was followed by one more beautiful, until I had heard three beautiful songs laying in bed drifting in and out of sleep. I finaly got out of bed, but left the radio on. The final song in the set was one of my more favorite Dylan songs. Admittedly, his voice isn’t particularly beautiful, but it was a great way to start the day anyway. I looked up the play list this morning, since I didn’t recognize the first three songs.
The Concretes sang “Oh Baby”, from the album Layourbattleaxedown. (Think Sky Cries Mary meets The Pixies). www.lickingfingers.com
Carla Bruni sang “Quelqu’un m’a dit”, from the album of the same name. Beautiful sexy french. I’m totally in love with her. www.carla.best.cd It’s in French, but doesn’t take too much guessing to get some audio samples.
Emiliana Torrini sang “Today Has Been Okay”, from the album Fisherman’s Woman. Think Bjork meets Michelle Shocked. Everyone but me has probably heard of her, since she’s on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. The song from the radio this morning isn’t on her website, but I highly recommend watching the video of Heartstopper available on her website. A nice song, and a really cool video (at least, if you’re into puppets). The Sunny Road video is kinda cool too, and I think I like the song better. http://www.emiliana.nu
And then good ‘ol Bob sang “One Too Many Mornings”, which is beautiful in its own way.
